Assessment and system sizing

What size solar system does your home need?

The right capacity is not determined by roof space alone. It should reflect current electricity use, when that electricity is consumed and any equipment that may be added over the next few years.

A home occupied during the day has a different consumption profile from one that uses most of its electricity in the evening. An EV charger, heat pump or battery also changes the calculation, but each one operates at different times.

Ecoclima compares suitable configurations and recommends a capacity that reflects current demand and any equipment you plan to add.

A clear proposal before installation

What an Ecoclima solar assessment includes

Before selecting panels or an inverter, we assess the building and its electricity use. This allows us to prepare the quotation, estimate production and identify the steps required in Luxembourg.

What we assess

  • The roof, shaded areas, site access and suitable mounting methods.
  • Annual electricity use and how it changes throughout the day.
  • The distribution board, protection devices and grid connection constraints.
  • Whether a battery, EV charger or energy management system would be useful.
  • Available grants and the formalities connected with the project.

What your quotation shows

  • The recommended capacity in kWp and the reasoning behind it.
  • The selected panels, inverter and battery, where applicable.
  • Estimated annual production and the main assumptions used.
  • A detailed price, estimated grants and the expected remaining cost.
  • The work included, each party’s responsibilities and the stages through to commissioning.

How the project works

From the initial assessment to commissioning

Every project follows the same main stages. Timescales depend on the roof, the grid operator, any required approvals and equipment availability.

  1. Initial discussionWe collect the property address, electricity bills, your objectives and details of any planned equipment.
  2. Technical visitWe inspect the roof, shaded areas, distribution board, site access and suitable locations for the technical equipment.
  3. Assessment and quotationYou receive the proposed capacity, selected equipment, estimated production, options and price.
  4. Technical documentsWe prepare the technical information and explain which documents or approvals are required.
  5. InstallationOur team installs the panels, inverter, mounting system and specified electrical protection devices.
  6. Commissioning and monitoringWe configure production monitoring and show you how to access the system data.

Solar grants in 2026

Solar grants and photovoltaic pre-financing in Luxembourg

The published Klimabonus 2026 framework provides financial aid for new photovoltaic systems that meet the official conditions. Under the pre-financing procedure, the grant is deducted from the final invoice. Ecoclima is listed in the register of eligible installers and files the application for qualifying projects.

  • The procedure applies to residential buildings in Luxembourg and photovoltaic systems with a minimum capacity of 2 kWp.
  • The system must operate in self-consumption mode. Surplus electricity may still be exported to the grid and sold at the market rate.
  • Total down-payments made before the final invoice may not exceed 30 % of the final invoice amount, including VAT.
  • A battery of at least 2 kWh may be included with a new system. If it is added on its own to an existing system, any aid is requested after the work through post-financing.

For an eligible project, the payment schedule takes the calculated grant into account and the aid is deducted from the final invoice. Every application remains subject to the official conditions.

Photovoltaic equipment

Equipment selected for the installation

The choice of panels, inverter and battery depends on the roof, planned capacity, shading and household consumption profile. Ecoclima selects the technical configuration after assessing the property.

The quotation lists the exact products, warranties, monitoring functions and system compatibility, so you know what will be installed.

Photovoltaic panels
Power output, dimensions, efficiency, product warranty and performance warranty.
Inverter or microinverters
Connection type, shading management, production monitoring and battery compatibility.
Mounting system and protection
A solution suited to the roof covering, structure, cable routes and electrical installation.
Optional battery
Capacity in kWh, output in kW, evening demand, available surplus and cost after grants.
Monitoring application
Access to production, self-consumption, grid export and electricity purchased from the grid.
Ecoclima recommends a battery when the home’s consumption profile supports it. The assessment considers available surplus, evening demand, usable capacity, discharge power and cost after grants. Read more about solar batteries.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about solar panel installation in Luxembourg

How much does a solar panel installation cost in Luxembourg?

The price depends on installed capacity, roof type, site access, the mounting system, inverter and options such as battery storage. Following the assessment, the quotation shows the installation cost, estimated grants and expected remaining amount. You can also read our 2026 guide to solar panel quotations.

Is my roof suitable for solar panels?

Orientation, pitch, shading, usable area, roof covering, condition and site access all need to be checked. An east- or west-facing roof may also work well, depending on the home’s consumption profile. The technical visit confirms feasibility and the appropriate installation method.

Do I need a battery with solar panels?

No. A photovoltaic system can operate in self-consumption mode without a battery. Storage may be useful when the panels regularly produce more than the home uses during the day and demand is higher in the evening. Battery capacity should be calculated from that consumption profile.

What grants are available for solar panels in Luxembourg in 2026?

The published Klimabonus 2026 framework provides aid for self-consumption photovoltaic systems that meet the official conditions. A battery may also qualify, and some municipalities offer additional support. Ecoclima reviews the schemes that may apply before the quotation is signed.

Who files the photovoltaic pre-financing application?

An installer listed in the official register files the application on behalf of the beneficiary. The client signs the mandate and provides the required supporting documents. For an eligible installation, the Klimabonus grant is deducted from the final invoice.

Who handles municipal approvals and the grid connection?

Ecoclima prepares the technical documents and coordinates the steps included in the quotation. When municipal approval is required, the application must be submitted by the property owner. We provide the relevant technical information and explain the process.

Are solar panels profitable in Luxembourg?

Profitability depends on the cost after grants, annual production, electricity used directly in the home, the value of exported surplus and the cost of any battery. The assessment provides an estimate based on the roof, consumption profile and rates used for the project.

How long does a solar panel installation take?

Installation time depends on the number of panels, roof type, site access and weather. The full project timeline also includes the assessment, administrative procedures and grid connection stages. An indicative schedule is provided after the technical visit.

Does Ecoclima install solar panels throughout Luxembourg?

Yes. Based in Munsbach, Ecoclima completes photovoltaic installations throughout the Grand Duchy. The assessment confirms site access, building constraints and the requirements of the municipality and grid operator.
