Installation of 28 solar panels in Schuttrange

A standard mounting system was not suitable for this home’s vegetated flat roof. We therefore designed a purpose-built solution before installing 28 AIKO Neostar panels with a total capacity of approximately 13 kWp, together with a Huawei inverter and a 15 kWh battery.

The project challenge

A vegetated flat roof that required a purpose-built mounting solution.

The main challenge was not simply where to place the panels. We first had to determine how to secure them to a roof that was unsuitable for a conventional installation.

The project began with a detailed roof assessment

Our technicians analysed the roof configuration, the usable areas and the existing technical elements. Based on this assessment, we planned the layout of the 28 panels and selected a mounting method suited to the existing substrate.

The required work areas were then prepared individually. Bituminous membrane sheets were heat-welded to create anchor points for the hooks and rails supporting the photovoltaic panels.

This level of preparation and execution is what sets this project apart from a standard photovoltaic installation.

  • Assessment of a vegetated flat roof unsuitable for a standard installation.
  • Panel layout adapted to the roof penetrations and available area.
  • A mounting system designed specifically for this roof configuration.

Installed configuration

An integrated photovoltaic system designed for a modern home.

For this project, we paired AIKO panels with a Huawei inverter and battery. The system was designed around the home’s consumption profile, including its electric vehicle.

15 kWh

We selected this capacity based on the home’s consumption profile and electrical uses, including its electric vehicle.

Why a 15 kWh battery for this project?

The household has an electric vehicle, so battery storage was considered as part of its overall electricity use rather than selected solely on the basis of the photovoltaic array’s capacity. This sizing is specific to this home and should not be treated as a standard recommendation for every household.

Local expertise

An Ecoclima solar installation in Schuttrange.

Not every flat or vegetated roof can use the same solution. For this project, we assessed the building, the existing substrate and the roof constraints before selecting the mounting method and equipment.

A battery sized around actual usage Storage capacity must reflect the home’s electricity use, including its electric vehicle.
Performance measured over time Production, self-consumption and savings should be assessed using the installation’s actual data.

Questions about this project

Installing solar panels on a flat roof: FAQ

Why was a standard solar panel installation unsuitable for this home in Schuttrange?
The home has a vegetated flat roof whose configuration did not allow a standard mounting system to be used directly. We therefore assessed the roof and designed a purpose-built mounting solution before installing the panels.
How were the panels secured to this vegetated flat roof?
Bituminous membrane sheets were heat-welded to the prepared areas to create anchor points. The hooks and rails supporting the panels were then secured to this structure.
What is the installed photovoltaic capacity?
The installation includes 28 AIKO Neostar panels with a total capacity of approximately 13 kWp. Annual production and self-consumption can then be assessed using the system’s actual monitoring data.
What equipment was installed for this project?
We installed 28 AIKO Neostar panels, a Huawei SUN2000-12K-MB0 three-phase hybrid inverter and a Huawei LUNA2000 S1 battery with a capacity of 15 kWh.
Why install a 15 kWh battery in a home with an electric vehicle?
The home’s electric vehicle was one of the electrical uses considered when sizing the system. Battery capacity should nevertheless always be based on the actual consumption profile, when electricity is used and the homeowner’s objectives.
Can solar panels be installed on every flat or vegetated roof?
Not automatically. Feasibility depends on the structure, roof build-up, available area and building constraints. A technical assessment is required before a mounting method can be selected.
